Hey there lovelies! I mentioned in the Memebox unboxing post that I was super excited for this Gokmul Care Creamy Cleansing Masque by Jaminkyoung because it claims to be a 3-in-1 product. It's a cleanser, exfoliator, and a mask marketed especially for enlarged pores and blackheads. But could this possibly be the worst multitasking product ever...?
US$45 or 33,000 Korean won for 100mL. This is definitely not a cheap product.
From their website, this mask (or should I say masque) seems like an innovative product that combines 10 years of experience and research using various herbs, plant extracts and rice to purify and cleanse your skin and pores.
I love how this mask is packaged. It comes with an easy "pop-up" lid and includes a spatula which is always great for maintaining hygiene. Although it seems as though the mask will dry out sooner as the pop-up seal isn't completely air proof.
The mask itself is very dry and thick with large granules in them. These granules are from the rice fragments that help with exfoliation.
The very first thing I noticed about this product was not the colour nor the texture. It was the smell. The horrific smell that reminded me of a mix between poop and vomit. And I'm not even exaggerating guys. But as much as I wanted to chuck the entire tub into the bin, I had to try it at least a couple times in the name of science.
First, I decided to use it as a mask. Using the spatula, I slathered my face with a thick layer of the mask. It was difficult to spread since it was so dry and thick. Instructions said I had to have it on my face for 1 minute. I struggled to even remain still for 30 seconds because with every breath I felt uncomfortable. When time was up I gladly removed the mask with warm water. The mask wasn't effectively dissolving in water, so I pretty much had to rub it off with a bit of force.
Next, using it as a cleanser/ exfoliator. After wetting my face I grabbed some product off the spatula and attempted to foam it up. I say 'attempted' because as you can see from the photos below, the product only foams up slightly even when more water is added. But as an exfoliator it does a decent job thanks to the small rice particles.
I couldn't bring myself to using this more than twice because it simply smells horrible :(
Oh, and did I mention that the smell lingers for at least a couple hours after using it on your face?
- Increased convenience of a multitasking product.

- Easy pop-up lid.
- Only requires 1 minute per day.
- It stinks (literally).

- Doesn't foam up very well.

- May dry up quickly in the tub.
This is one of those products where if I had seen it on TV or on their website, I probably would have purchased it straight away thinking that it is an amazing multi-tasking product that would save so much time, and is great for my pores. I was very lucky to have received this Gokmul Care Masque as part of my Memebox, but it sucks that I hate it so much, especially when the reason is its smell.
Being a pharmacy student we learn about what makes a drug formulation a good product, and one of the category is "elegance"- meaning they have to have acceptable appearance, taste, etc. And I believe the same goes for a cosmetic product where elegance should be highly regarded for increased customer acceptance. Well as a customer of this product, I was not impressed.
Then again, the smell of a cosmetic product is very high on my list of things I consider when purchasing them. So unless you don't care about this 'minor' problem that I have, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
If you have read this far, I appreciate you listening to my rant about smell :P Anyone else out there who care so much about something unusual?
