These are by no means a new product. The NYX Xtreme Lip Creams have a big hit on a lot of overseas blogs so I was very curious. Courtney actually picked the colours that I wanted so I ended up getting the slightly different variations of those. We went for extremes, a dark pink and a more natural colour.
What it says on the front:
It's not lipstick, nor is it gloss. It's like nothing you've experienced before. It's liquid lipstick that goes on with full Xtreme color and intense shine.
This sums it up so well.
The ingredients as listed on the back. The applicator is quite hard. Definitely not as soft as it looks. At first I was not very fond of it but it grew on me. The stiffness helped get a more precise application. But a lip brush is still best.
Bonfire: A gorgeous deep pink colour that applies very even. Is actually more pink in real life than in the picture.
Butter nude: A natural colour which tends to apply more streaky. I'm not really a fan of this colour because I find it washes me out because I am quite pale.
A quick arm swatch. You can see that consistency is quite thick and very opaque in one swipe.
Because they are crazy pigmented, I prefer applying them with a lip brush so that it is nice and clean. Bonfire can look messy very easily. The finish is shiny but as you can see it is not high gloss. You would need a lip gloss on top of this if that is what you are after. But the longer you wear it the shine does start to fade and it becomes more matte. No where near as non-shine as their matte formula of course.
Price: $5 USD (from Cherry Culture)
Formulation: Very smooth and very mildly sticky. I would not call this "moisturising" but it's not drying on the lips. Once it "sets" it becomes very comfortable and it is a very smooth feeling.
Pigmentation: Crazy colour in just one swipe. You need the smallest amount for your whole lips.
Scent: Unfortunately these products do not smell very good. I think it is that seed oil in the ingredients that gives it a strong "oil" scent. I did get used to it though and now I barely notice it.
Lasting power: This usually sets after a couple of minutes. I am quite impressed with its durability. It will pretty much look the same if you don't eat even after about 4-5 hours.. But we do get hungry, so after a meal some of it does come off. There is still faint colour left but it's not really a stain. It is not marketed as a lasting product anyway but it's still impressed.
- amazing colour payoff so you only need a small amount that spreads quite well and evenly
- sets quite quickly
- lasts enough time
- even after "setting", there is always product transfer especially if you eat and drink
- must be applied carefully otherwise it can look messy
- will settle a little into the lines of your lips the longer you have it on
- smell is not appealing
Overall this is still a great product. Not something that I would wear everyday because it can get messy.
